Tyger Tyger, Animated Short featured in Self Enhancement, Inc. Annual Fundraising Gala Event Here & Now
Teacher, Animator, Motion GraphicsA multimedia mashup of the words of William Blake, archival images from the Smithsonian Institution, and the music of John Coltrane, concieved, performed, and animated by 4th and 5th graders in the Animation Module of our after school computer class here at Self Enhancement, Inc. for their annual Gala Fundraiser Event, Here & Now. The short was displayed on loop on flat panel monitor in the reception hall during the event.
In this project we looked at the text of William Blake’s allegory of industrial revolution and juxtaposed it with images of the African American experience in the 19th century. We used Adobe Photoshop to create collages with layers, which we then bounced to some of our high school interns to help animate in Adobe After Effects. This selection highlights use of our homemade green screen, alpha channel compositing techniques, use of motion text, and Photoshop animation techniques using layers. It also demonstrates my ability to create original high quality works for installation.
At The Mountains of Madness Trailer, final project of SEI 8th grade Video Production Class
Directing, Cinematography, 3d Modeling, Compositing, Special EffectsThis selection was the final project of my 8th grade video production students at Self Enhancement, Inc. We read and discussed H.P. Lovecraft’s seminal tale of Antarctic horror and adapted it for the screen through the innovative use of Google Sketchup, Google Maps, and our custom painted green screen! The students participated in the scriptwriting and storyboarding process, shooting and editing, and the post production process using Adobe After Effects. We designed 3d sets in Sketchup with textures, exported to After Effects, as mixed with live action footage filmed with our green screen. This selection also features some of my innovative sound editing.
This short was featured in Portland’s H.P. Lovecraft Film Fest, and highlights both my visionary directing skills, my ability to organize and motivate youth, my fast paced editing and compositing style, and my innovative workflow – an ability to transition fluidly between different software environments while keeping the overall project goals in mind.
